This weekend is OLYMPIA ZINE FEST! One of the organizers is visiting us in October for PHX Zine Fest, and presenting a workshop called "Self-Publish with Confidence" - meet Sage Adderley! Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
I'm Sage Adderley, and I'll be traveling from Olympia, Washington to attend the PHX Zine Fest! I have been running Sweet Candy Distro & Press for the past 12 years. I also write the zines Marked for Life and FAT-TASTIC! What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? I am excited to visit Phoenix for the first time and meet some local zinesters! I will also be presenting a workshop at the fest about self-publishing. I am super pumped about sharing my publishing insight with others.

I am Rosie Magaña, the founder and Director for Palabras Librería/Bookstore. Our Zine does not have a title yet, but I think it may be called, "Rebel Road: In the Grand Scheme of Things" and it will be based on Phoenix and Grand Avenue culture. What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? I'd like people to know that there is a nonprofit Bilingual Bookstore and Community library on Grand where they can distribute their zines and where people can buy zines. I also want people to know that the space is open to be used for local community events and if they are interested in hosting a zine or any other art/community based event or workshop they can contact us and we provide the space free of charge. I want people to know they have a place to be free to express themselves and share ideas and passions in an open and diverse environment (palabrasbookstore.com) . As for the Zine, we are working on the very first issue now and this zine will feature images and work that exemplifies Phoenix Culture and the identity of Grand avenue. They will serve as a way to inform the public of whats happening on Grand and be a medium for POC art. We will also be bringing some mugs with our logo to sell and some zines from local artists. Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
I'm a Phoenix-based artist that self-publishes Amazing Arizona Comics, a mini-comic that satirizes local news, history, and culture with superhero adventure. My comic has been featured on Fox 10, ABC 15, the New Times arts blog, and KJZZ! At PZF, I'll have poetry chapbooks, Karaoke Comics, and my fanzine "Far & Wee" available, too. What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? The Wasted Ink Zine Distro has supported my work from day one, and I'm excited to see their passion for self-publishing reach its zenith in a long-overdue Phoenix-based show of this caliber! Plus, I'm always excited to share my comics with others. I only make 'em so folks can read 'em. Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
I'm from Phoenix and I make a Zine of personal photography called Stranger. What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? I create zines to process internal issues I have. It's more of coming to terms with myself. Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
We are Going Against the Grain from East Los Angeles California. We are an all traditional analog photography collective that hand processes all our film and hand print all our photographs in the dark room. We are also screen printers, videographers, paint makers, illustrators, and various more creative expertise. We will have a variety of zine's that deal with questioning social and cultural norms around our city that people can relate to. We will have zines on social documentary, portraiture, abstract, still life, urban documentary and many more. What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? We go against the grain not because we want to be cool or weird, but because we believe and stand by everything we create. All the zines under our publication try and inspire people by challenging their perspective on life. We heard from Lori, Alex's wife, who told us more about him and his work! Alex Avery is an artist originally from Virginia. Received his Bachelors in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York. He creates comic book zines that are action, adventure, and comedy stories.
What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? We are both very excited about tabling at PHX ZINE FEST. We are looking forward to meeting new people and seeing what's out there. Questions? Comments? Concerns? This is our first event and we can't wait! Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
I'm a cartoonist that has lived in AZ for the entirety of my life. For a long time I self-published autobio comics about... well, my life. Actually, a lot of them were centered around playing in punk bands, and my relationship with music. But I've since branched out into making weird science-fiction stories with an underground "Comix"-kinda sensibility, too. What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? I'm looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest because I know people will be there specifically to find self-published authors/illustrators, and their works, and that's kinda the opposite of what happens when you table at a big pop-culture convention. Questions? Comments? Concerns? yay! Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
My name is Adam, I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and I am currently studying architecture and studio art at ASU. My friend Noah who will be joining me is from Glendale and it striving to become a street photographer. Our zine is called "Insight Collective." What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? "Insight Collective" is a zine something Noah and I have just recently started. It is basically a display of the local arts and their work, Visual, fashion, photography and hopefully in the near future some music as well. It contains their work as well as a personal interview. I'm excited for the phoenix zine fest to show off these artists as well as my work and connect the valley in a creative way. Thank you. Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
I am johnnie b. baker and I do Budget Press, currently out of San Diego. I publish other people much more than myself, and Budget Press has put out over 60 zines, chapbooks, novellas and whatever else I feel like doing at any given time. Budget Press is not limited to any type of genre or format or anything, if I like it, I'll make it. I do whatever I want. I will have my next lit zine, Budget Press Review #8, ready for the San Diego and Phoenix Zine Fests. budgetpress.net What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016? I like to go places, and I look forward to the road trip across the desert to check out the Wasted Ink store and see what is happening in Phoenix. I mostly publish single-author zines and poetry chapbooks and short-story collections, and I am always open to finding new collaborators for future projects. |
