How do you start a small press or arts and culture organization with no background or experience in business or publishing? How many mistakes can we save you the trouble of making? Join Four Chambers Founder and Editor in Chief Jake Friedman as he shares where Four Chambers came from, where it's going, and the importance of community development.
Jake Friedman is the Founder and Editor in Chief of an independent community literary magazine and small press called Four Chambers. For money, he serves as a Coordinator for the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing. Before that, he waited tables. He is currently working on an experimental non-fiction piece about Dennis Rodman and Kim Jong Un. Before that, he was working on a manuscript about waiting tables and, before that, poetry. He lives in Phoenix with his partner and a cat.
Four Chambers is an independent community literary magazine and small pressed based in Phoenix, AZ whose mission is to give greater visibility to the literary arts and encourage their participation in the larger cultural scene. We publish a yearly journal, chapbooks, single author works, and special projects in partnership with local businesses and cultural institutions. In addition to publishing, we also host salons, writing groups, touring authors, featured readings, and other events and programs that seek to bring people together and use arts and culture as a way to build community. Who are you? Where do you come from? What zine do you make?
Hi! My name is Jake Friedman, I live in Phoenix, AZ (and am originally from the East Coast--Laurel, MD) and I'm the Founder and Editor in Chief of an independent community literary magazine and small press called Four Chambers.
What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016?
We're looking forward to sharing our authors' work with the festival (especially since we love our city, and so many of authors have strong connections to Phoenix) and meeting other passionate people who are doing interesting things.
