Avast ye mateys, we're... Wait, no we're not doing that. Hi there, I'm The Klute, I'm a poet and Cornell University educated shark conservationist and I've hit the water with sharks from the lowly nurse to the mighty great white. I'm from Phoenix, and I'm presenting a self-published chapbook of poetry called "Chumming the Waters". I might also have a one-off chapbook called "Cap'n Klute's Guide to Saving the Ocean from the Desert". Arrr.
What would you like people to know about the zines you create and/or why you are looking forward to tabling at Phx Zine Fest 2016?
In 2015, after an expedition to Isla Guadalupe with Fins Attached Marine Research and Conservation, I decided to use my poetry to try to help sharks around the globe. There are poems in this chapbook that will talk about the futility of war, the risks of climate change, to the joys of lazy days at the beach, all from the perspective of various shark species. I don't keep any of the profits from this book, all are donated to Fins Attached for shark science, and I hope everyone will walk away from Phx Zine Fest with a greater appreciation for these fantastic fish! Oh, and anyone who buys a copy of "Chumming the Waters" gets a free shark to take home with them. Are you on #TeamGreatWhite or #TeamWhaleShark? Only one will be crowned Official Shark of Phx Zine Fest!
